Samhain season starts in Longford, plus High Society at the Bord Gais

A county-wide Halloween festival, Cole Porter at full tilt, and the headless horseman's Irish roots.

The clocks haven’t turned yet, but Leinster is already dressing for the dark half of the year. The week pulls two ways: Halloween stirs to life out west in Longford, while Dublin keeps the lights up for a big Cole Porter musical and a night of art-pop. Here’s what’s worth planning for, with time to book before the weekend fills up.
