Chat Pile, Bluey's Big Play and a savage Abbey comedy

A noise-rock double bill, a heeler on stage for the kids, and Matthew Broderick in a dark comedy before it closes.

The August lull is a good week to get organised, and this one rewards a bit of forward planning. A run of family shows slides into the 3Olympia, an Abbey production counts down its final nights, and a couple of gigs are aimed squarely at people who like their guitars loud and unpleasant. Here’s what to pencil in.

Making a night of it in the city

If a late gig or an early family show means you’d rather not chance the last train home, a night in town takes the stress out of it. A base near Temple Bar or Dame Street puts most of this week’s shows within a short walk. Find a Dublin stay
